Getting to Thassos, Greece


What a delight it is to spend your holiday on the wonderful Greek island of Thassos. But first of all, you have to get here.
The two most common ways are from Kavala Airport and Thessaloniki Airport

Kavala

Kavala airport (Megas Alexandros) was originally a military airport but in 1987 became an International airport. It is 10km south of Kavala, and the journey is approximately 15-20 minutes to the ferry terminal at Keramoti, and 40 minutes to Kavala.

It is by far the easiest way to get to Thassos and both charter and scheduled flights land here during the summer.


Direct flights land here from Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Budapest, Amsterdam and Athens

A taxi from Kavala Airport to Keramoti ferry port will cost around €10

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki International Airport (Macedonia) Also known as "Salonika" or "Thessalonika".

Please pay special attention to your arrival time in Thessaloniki to ensure your connection with the ferry to Thassos.

Thessaloniki aiport is much larger than Kavala and therefore produces much more air traffic making it an easier airport to fly, and arrange flights to. It is approximately 165km from Kavala and the travelling time is approximately 2hrs 30 mins.

Ferries

Before booking your flight it would be advisable to make yourself familiar with the ferry crossing timetable. This will ensure that you do not have to stay overnight on the mainland.
There are three ferry routes to Thassos and these are:
  • Keramoti-Limenas (Thassos Town)
  • Kavala-Prinos
  • Kavala-Limenas (Hydrofoil)
